When you read the title you most probably think that I overslept and as soon as I reach the bus stop, I find out that I had missed the bus ,however this is a totally different tale.
Grade 10 has half day -we board the bus at 12:00 along with the pre-primary children and head home. I had signed up for dancing on graduation day and thus I had practice however the batch I was dancing was doing another rehearsal and we reached the bus stop at 12:05. The buses had the left school premises and were En route home while me and my friend Aparna was standing at the school gate cursing our rotten luck. Our friend Ishita whose mom picks her up decided to stay back with us while we figured out this mess.
After brainstorming for a while, a friend of ours was extremely generous and had offered us his money so that we could book a ride. Me, Ishitha and Aparna were still absolutely clueless but deep in our hearts we also felt excited and adventurous, but we finally decided to go report this to our class teacher who was supposedly in 8C. We ran up the stairs and barged into 8C only to see them have another class. I met a couple of my other friends in corridors who to my annoyance found this extremely cool, and rebellious and were glad that I would go home with them in the regular timing. We then searched all the classes and found an empty classroom, placed our bags there so that other teachers aren't suspicious. As we exited the empty classroom, we see our strict Vice Principal and all three of us make a dash to the washroom. To our horror the Vice Principal was also coming to the washroom so all three of squeezed into one cubicle and bolted the door shut.
A couple of minutes passed in silence and then we sheepishly unlocked the door and sneakily followed behind the vice principal in search for our Class teacher only to see the VP conversing with our teacher. Ishita slowly beckons our teacher and as soon as the vice principal leaves, we go to the staff room to have a word with her. She was slightly disappointed but glad that we informed her, she tells us to meet the vice principal herself- all our efforts to stay hidden from the VP were in vain. After getting an earful from the VP we head to her room and ring up our parents. My mom was shocked and in the heat of the moment she asked me to quit dance. She then asked me to stay in school till 2:30 and disperse with the other students. My class teacher worried about our meals, arranges lunch for us in the cafeteria. Aparna calls her dad who thankfully took a leave from work. After a rapid conversation in Malayalam, she lets me know that her dad would be able to pick her up. She heard that I was to stay back so too plans on staying in school with me; but then a great idea strikes Ishita's mind.
Unlike Aparna and I, me and Ishita live pretty close. She would pass my house before she reached hers. So, she calls her mom and asks her to drop me. This was followed by me taking the phone again and calling my mom who allowed me to go home in my friend's car. We thank the teachers, collect our bags from the empty classroom drop Aparna in the reception and board the car.
The Car ride was another exciting experience. Me and Ishita looked at the graduation day dresses(saris), discussed about our exams and our farewell part, sang along with the songs on the radio, stalked our friends on Instagram, cracked jokes and spoke about all sorts of things.
After an exciting turn of events, we finally reached home.
